Carmen Suite, Les Toreadors

The Carmen Suites are two suites of orchestral music drawn from the music of Georges Bizet's 1875 opera Carmen and compiled posthumously by his friend Ernest Guiraud. They adhere very closely to Bizet's orchestration. Les Toréadors – Theme from prelude to act 1 and Procession of the Toreadors from act 4: "Les voici! voici la quadrille des Toreros!". Suite No. 1 was published c. 1882.

The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie č. 9 e moll "Z nového světa"), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák and premiered in New York City on 16 December 1893. It has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. Astronaut Neil Armstrong took a tape recording of the New World Symphony along during the Apollo 11 mission, the first Moon landing, in 1969.

This piece is based on an Iranian folk melody from Gorgan with lyrics in Farsi. The composer has tried to use the Santour, a Persian string instrument, to conjure the sound of Iranian traditional music. The Persian folk melody is featured as well, with support from the Harp, an ancient classical instrument.

About Dr. Tebyani

Dr. Tebyani has amassed extensive experience in the fields of Music education, orchestral conducting, composition, lecturing, and leadership consultancy. He holds a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Classical Composition and Master of Music (M.M.) in Orchestra Conducting from California State University, Northridge, and his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University. Mehran is the principal Music Director of the Beverly Hills Philharmonic Orchestra – BH Phil., a post he has held since 2015.
